Frappato

Classic aromas of Frappato are: Strawberry, Raspberry, Red Cherry and Red Plum

Frappato is a red grape varietal that is planted on the island of Sicily. It has been planted here since the early 16th century but was first catalogued in the 1760.

Frappato is largely cultivated in the south of Sicily in the region of Ragusa and Trapani. Here it is more often than not blended with other red grape varietals indigenous to Sicily such as Nero d’Avola and Nerello Mascalese. In the red wines of Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, Frappato must make up 30-50% of the overall blend with Nero d’Avola making up the rest.

Frappato makes wines that are light in body with soft tannins and high in acidity. They will have fresh red fruit flavours of strawberry and raspberry and red and white florals in the best examples.
